Rose of Sharon (hibiscus syriacus) is a large deciduous shrub that is in the mallow family. It can be grown as a hedge for privacy, and the butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds love them!
Start seeds indoors 8 weeks before your last frost. Once seedling is established and all signs of frost have passed, the seedling can be transplanted into well drained fertile soil. This plant may take 2-3 years to flower. Once mature, it can be as tall as 8-12 feet and can self seed, creating a colony of the mother plant.
